The West Columbia Police Department is proud to serve the City of West Columbia and its citizens.Under the leadership of Chief Michael Palmer, the department has two patrol sergeants, four patrol officers, and one detective. We are proud to have a reserve force of four officers that are willing to come out when they have time off from their regular jobs and help our officers protect the citizens of the City. Our reserve force is growing all the time. Together they provide 24 hour protection to the citizen’s and businesses of West Columbia.One telecommunications supervisor, and three fulltime telecommunications officers, provide 24 hour dispatch service to the department. They also provide dispatch services for the West Columbia Volunteer Fire Department , Central EMS, Columbia Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, Damon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Old Ocean Volunteer Fire Department. Our criminal case manager is responsible for filing our many cases with various state agencies, as well as providing the public with access to copies of reports. She also acts as a personal assistant to each officer! We have one animal control officer who is responsible for locating and capturing stray animals, and responding to animal complaints.
