Cell phones prohibited in school zones!

On September 1st, 2009 legislation was passed prohibiting the use of cell phones, without a handsfree device, in school zones, while the school zones are in effect. The law further requires that signs be posted at the entrance of each school zone indicating that cell phones are prohibited.  
The City of West Columbia installed these signs on the week of 11-2-09.  Please observe the signs as you pass through the school zones and be aware that this includes texting on your cell phone.


West Columbia Police Department adds K-9 unit

The police department is proud to announce the newest addition to its ranks.
Z.Z., a 16 month old German Shepard, began his drug sniffing career here at the police department on November 13th, 2009.  Z.Z. is trained in narcotics detection and tracking and has already showed us how valuable he will be in our fight against illegal narcotics.  His partners are Sgt. Larry Odom and Officer Alfred Pena.  The three of them attended K-9 handeling school at The Little Rock K-9 Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas.  We are very excited to have a K-9 unit here at the department again!!
